The Process
CONSULTATION
When a speech or language concern arises parents or guardians should contact Speak Wonders. We will provide a free 10-15 minute consultation based on parent report and or observation of the child if necessary. Based on the consultation the therapist will provide feedback based on clinical expertise. The parent and clinician then will decide if speech and language services are needed.
EVALUATION
A formal comprehensive evaluation will be performed. Areas addressed will be language, articulation, oral motor, fluency, and voice. The evaluation will last for approximately 1-2 hours depending on the child. Standard scores will be provided along with age equivalency to exhibit how the child is performing in relation to same aged peers. A plan of care with detailed goals will be constructed based on the results of the evaluation.
TREATMENT
Treatment sessions are typically for 30 mins 1-2 times a week. Therapy is play based for younger children and functional for older children. Therapy will target the goals outlined in the plan of care. Homework and strategies for the carry-over of skills will be provided to the family. The duration of therapy will be determined by the progress of the child.
